Taylor Street ramp at Jane Byrne to open Jan. 14

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the reconstructed ramp from Taylor Street to northbound I-90/94 will open, weather permitting, by 5 a.m. Friday, January 14. See map.

“The completion of the Taylor Street to Kennedy ramp is a significant step forward,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. “The new ramp will improve traffic flow and help reduce delays for the more than 11,000 vehicles that use it daily. As progress continues and the finish line for this project gets closer, we ask for the public’s continued patience. Please, stay alert, slow down and give your undivided attention going through this and all other work zones.”

The new entrance ramp will connect to the northbound collector-distributor road that opened last month, with access to the exit ramps to Washington Boulevard, Madison, Randolph (currently closed until spring) and Lake streets, then continues north to join northbound I-90/94 at Lake Street.

As ongoing work continues, motorists should expect significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limit and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
