Randolph Street ramp reopens, Lake Street ramp closes
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the reconstructed ramp from the northbound I-90/94 to Randolph Street will reopen, weather permitting, by 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 1.
The new Randolph Street exit ramp will connect to the northbound collector-distributor road that also provides access to the ramps to Washington Boulevard, Madison and Lake streets.
Starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, the ramp from northbound I-90/94 to Lake Street will close, with an anticipated reopening in late August. The closure is necessary to construct new pavement. A detour will direct motorists to the Washington Street exit, east to Jefferson Street, north to Lake Street.
Expect significant delays to continue and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
The overall reconstruction project at the Jane Byrne Interchange will improve safety and traffic flow for the more than 400,000 motorists who use it each day, while also enhancing mobility for bicyclists, pedestrians and transit users in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The improved Jane Byrne Interchange will be substantially completed by the end of this year.
