Madison Street ramp reopens, Washington Boulevard ramp closes at the Jane Byrne Interchange
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the reconstructed ramp from northbound I-90/94 to Madison Street will reopen, weather permitting, by 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 7.
The new ramp will improve traffic flow and help reduce delays for the more than 3,800 vehicles that use it daily.
Starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, the ramp from northbound I-90/94 to Washington Boulevard will close. The closure is necessary to rebuild the ramp, with an anticipated reopening by the end of the year.
A detour will direct motorists to the Lake Street exit, east on Lake Street and south on Des Plaines Street to Washington Boulevard.
Motorists should expect significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limit and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
The overall reconstruction project at the Jane Byrne Interchange will improve safety and traffic flow for the more than 400,000 motorists who use it each day, while also enhancing mobility for bicyclists, pedestrians and transit users in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The improved Jane Byrne Interchange will be complete in 2022.
