Ida B. Wells Drive ramp to northbound I-90/94 to close
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction, the ramp from westbound I-290 to the northbound I-90/94 and the Canal Street entrance ramp will close, weather permitting, starting at 1 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, with an anticipated reopening in early November.
The closures are necessary to construct new pavement. Northbound I-90/94 traffic will be routed onto the southbound I-90/94 ramp where traffic will come to the Union Avenue/Taylor Street intersection, turn left, and then turn left again to enter the northbound lanes from the Taylor Street entrance ramp.
Canal Street traffic will be detoured west on Van Buren Street and will enter I-290 at the Racine Avenue entrance ramp.
Motorists should expect significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
